Forney, TX — Manhole Structural Rehabilitation

THE CHALLENGE

The City of Forney, Texas, was interested in options for rehabilitating their underground infrastructure — primarily deteriorating manholes. In the initial demo project, an 11’ deep manhole was experiencing significant damage and compromise from hydrogen sulfide gases. The manhole receives 18” and 10” wastewater lines, respectively. The bench and invert sections were both damaged as well.

THE SOLUTION

The project began with a complete survey of the structure, generating a report of structural damage and the proposed solutions for restoration. In this case, a minimum of ½” cementitious repair was needed to return the existing substrate to its original profile. The cementitious repair also provides a quality substrate for the application of Sprayroq Spraywall® to adhere to. The cementitious material required about 48 hours of cure time.

Sprayroq’s Spraywall® is a polyurethane coating with structural integrity exceeding the original material. Certified, trained applicators applied 250mils in a cross-hatch pattern, creating a fully monolithic structure. Once cured, the coating would withstand, even if the underlying substrate deteriorated. Spraywall® is the fastest-curing product in the industry. Finally, spark testing is conducted to identify and re-coat any pinholes, even if they are invisible to the naked eye. Due to the fast-curing time (tack-free in 2 minutes), averaging a return to service of only 30 minutes, avoiding painful traffic delays or public utility outages.
